Circular economy

We have one big ambition - zero waste.

By designing fully recyclable papers, and treating by-products and used paper as precious raw materials, we aim to make waste a thing of the past.

What does circular economy mean for UPM Communication Papers?

As the world grapples with the challenge of limited resources and a rising population which will inevitably consume more, industries are increasingly looking to design products based on circular economy thinking to position themselves for the future. And yet the paper industry is, and always has been, based on these principles.

Unlike the ‘take, make, consume and dispose’ model of traditional linear economies, a circular economy thrives on a ‘Reuse and Recycle’ model. For the pulp and paper industry, this model hits close to home and UPM Communication Papers is a trailblazer in this thinking, aiming to optimize resource efficiency and reduce waste and inefficiency by making the best possible use of materials during production and after use.

The paper life cycle

We see paper as the blueprint for circular economy. When produced using renewable resources through sustainable practices and recycled after its end use, it is a perfect example of circular economy.
