International Innovations Entries sought for print excellence
2015 will be the 18th year of the Newsawards, which celebrates excellence in newspaper and news media production. UPM has been an active sponsor of the awards for many years and since 2014, UPM has been the sponsor of the Printed Innovation category.
“The awards are now widely regarded as the biggest and leading industry networking event in the annual calendar,” said Gary Cullum, co-founder of the awards.
Judges will be looking for entries that demonstrate the most innovative, creative or commercial implementation of print for newspapers while also demonstrating commercial benefits to printers and/or publishers. Entries can be for newspapers or supplements themselves or they can be stand-alone initiatives that have been used to enhance a newspaper’s performance such as posters, books, wraps, etc.
Closing date for receipt of entries is 6 February 2015. Nominations are to be announced during the week commencing 16 March 2015.

The Printed Innovation category
First introduced in 2013, the Printed Innovation of the Year category has rapidly become one of the most sought after categories to win. Recognising that innovation is key to the continuing success of the printed newspaper, the category has attracted fantastic entries from the majority of major national and regional newspaper publishers.
In 2014, in line with UPM’s global presence, the category was opened to international entries.
The 2014 winner was The Daily Telegraph for its Cascade front page cover wrap which was recognised as a truly creative and imaginative adver¬tising innovation that contributes to the brand. The highly Commended spot went to the Caerphilly Observer which impressed the judges with its reverse printing from online to print. Among the Commended categories was an in¬ternational entry from Freiburger Druck for its varnished newspaper products.
