Renewed handbook and webinars on improving paper handling and logistics

The UPM sponsored cross-industry collaboration Optimized Paper Handling & Logistics (OPHAL) has published the second edition of their best practice guide to transporting and handling papers. As part of the collaboration, we are now also offering free webinars on the topic, available for you whether you are a UPM customer or a publisher, supplier, transporter, or printer.

Preventing and reducing the risk of accidents, economic damage, and environmental loss across the paper value chain is of utmost importance for UPM Communication Papers. That is why we were among the initiators of an international cross-industry collaboration, Optimized Paper Handling & Logistics (OPHAL). We are still proud to sponsor the project as well as to be a member.

The OPHAL group will regularly organise webinars on different paper logistics related topics.

Better handling and logistics are crucial

Paper is handled multiple times on its journey from mill to printing press, with each step carrying a risk of damage or loss. Any reduction in paper damage will improve economic performance and reduce environmental impact.

Safety is one more key concern, since paper handling requires specialised techniques, tools, and storage facilities. Every manipulation of a paper rolls or a pallet carries a risk of accidents and injuries.

You can find the second edition of the OPHAL manual and download it free of charge from the OPHAL website.

Handbook and webinars help optimising

To keep everyone in the whole supply chain up to date on how to minimize the risks of handling and transporting paper, the OPHAL group will regularly organise webinars on different paper logistics related topics.

Participation is free of charge and the first webinar will be held on 27 January 2022, introducing a series of OPHAL webinars and presenting the topics of the OPHAL handbook.

Among the speakers at the webinar is Martin Schorn, Director, Technical Customer Service Europe, UPM Communication Papers, who will talk about paper transportation.

The OPHAL group has also opened a website featuring the OPHAL guide and the webinars here.
