UPM Schongau is located some 100 kilometers from Munich in the German town of Schongau. Tradition and progress have shaped the mill site since it was founded in 1887. UPM Schongau has some 540 employees and produces over 740,000 tonnes per annum of printing paper in reels on three paper machines. The paper mill is committed to sustainability and uses, in addition to wood, over 90 % recovered paper.

I am proud to, and love to work on paper machine 6 at UPM Schongau. The over 50 year old paper machine makes a wide range of paper grades. My team and I are regularly faced with interesting and challenging tasks. In this way we continue to develop not only ourselves but also our machines.

Specialty Minerals Inc. (SMI) also operates at Schongau. It is a daughter company of Minerals Technologies Inc, making more than 1.2 million tonnes per annum of PCC filler for the paper industry.

The logistics company Spedition Ansorge and UPM Schongau have used the ELIAS e-truck prototype in a pilot project. After the successful testruns, they are now working on a concept that enables more sustainable and environmentally friendly logistics in the long term.
