The UPM Kymi paper mill is located in Kuusankoski, Kouvola, Finland, some 140 kilometers away from Helsinki. The paper mill was founded in 1872 and is part of the UPM Kymi integrated mill site – a versatile and energy efficient integrated mill site that produces paper, pulp and energy.

The heat supply and most of the electricity needed for paper and pulp production are coming from the pulp mill’s chemical recovery plant and Kymin Voima Oy’s biofuel power plant located on the mill site. The mill site has 85% self-sufficiency in electricity and some 90% of the energy is coming from renewable biofuels.
Zero tons of waste at Kymi goes to landfills. Waste management & sorting processes have been optimized through organized trainings and effective information sharing among the staff.
UPM Kymi is kown for a safe and modern production environment, competent staff and quality products, an efficient location regarding raw materials, energy and the nearby markets, environmentally friendly production and delivery and a the high use of biofuels.
The number of accidents resulting in sick leave for UPM personnel at the pulp and paper mill was 0 (2019 EMAS report). Over the past 10 years, the number of accidents resulting in sick leave for UPM personnel at the Kymi mill has decreased by 100%.
