The UPM Hürth paper mill is located in the west of Cologne, Germany, in the Hürth-Knapsack industrial zone. Founded in 2002, Hürth has one of the most modern paper machines in Europe, which produces newsprint from 100% recovered paper.

Logistics services
Logistics services on site are operated by PLI – Papier Logistik International. They care for recovered paper reception and handling, warehouse operation and shipment. “Your Way is our Business” is PLI’s company principle.

Occupational Health and Safety
Safety first. This imperative is valid for all work in the mill under all circumstances.
A management system for OHS is the basis of our daily work and gives everyone their role and responsibilities – from the General Manager to the superiors and the operators at the machine.
Main pillars of the system are the UPM Safety Standards, the superior’s safety walks which ensure the proper ways of working and the employee’s safety observations. Especially the latter are important – on one hand to review rules and facilities for safe working, on the other hand to derive preventive measures against accidents, just as by the analyses of accidents or near misses. In 2022 more than 500 such observations were made.
