Forests of opportunity

Forests are the primary source of raw materials for UPM. Applying the principles of sustainable forest management is therefore a critical priority for our company. We promote good forest management practices and ensure that we have full control over the origin of our wood.

Recovered paper is an important raw material in paper making. Fresh fibre is nevertheless essential to the paper cycle, as wood fibre can only be recycled a finite number of times before it becomes too short and weak for paper making.

Origin of wood

You will find UPM’s Origin of Wood Information Statements for each of our mills in our mill certificates. These statements confirm our commitment and compliance to the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR).

UPM Biodiversity programme

UPM has developed a global biodiversity programme for the forests we own. The programme aims to maintain and increase biological diversity, keeping our forests full of life.
